78% and almost done

Hi everyone. Sorry for the late night post. I think my brain functioning well at night. Usually I spend this hour by doing my assignment but tonight, I want to continue my story about my experience being a counselling students or a special name that Dr. Fa give us that is ‘trainee counselor’.
In busy finishing our report, case study, video and presentation, we are now in week tenth. Undeniable, as a student we have a lot of things to do. Assignment can make me fun, feel motivate and also can make me feel nervous.
In BHS subject, things that make me fun is when doing assignment. As all of you know, this subject have one individual assignment and group assignment. I enjoyed doing individual assignment because I know myself better because there was a part that I have to write about myself, my family, my behaviour management and the happiness project.
After shoot for our video assignment
But, there is a part that hard for me is a letter of gratitude. I do not want to write that letter to my parents because they not influence me at all. But, I know they always support me on whatever I am doing now. I have one friend that I knew when I went to boarding school. I entered that school by myself without my lower secondary school friends because I am the only one who did the last minute decision. Being far from family and did not have any friends is too challenging for me. I act like there were nothing happen because I want to show to my parents that I have made a good decision. I start knew this guy because we were in the same class. He was an excellent student during our batch. Because of his good academic, he always challenged me. One of his challenges was he wanted me to get on stage to receive SPM slip. You know what, I accepted that challenge and I made it!! But, I realize. I never thanked  him. I also do not why. Maybe it is because of my ego.
Another BHS assignment that I enjoyed was making a video editing although I feel like a drunk person. This was my first time doing the video editing. I learn editing skill in youtube and my friends that have skill in editing also taught me very well. Making a video want you to cooperate with your group members. Praise to god, all of my member doing well and give 100% commitment. Thank you Salwa and Izzah for staying up till morning to finish our report. Thank you very much!!!
Realize or not, we almost finish our semester 1 syllabus. Do not forget that our BHS examination just around the corner. Good luck to all my friends. Thank you for lending me your time reading this blog.

‘difficult roads often leads to beautiful destination’

Thank you friend

Good morning/ afternoon/ evening everyone. I’m Nurfarrah’ ain Binti Mohammad Sukan, with the matric number 68410. This would be my second entry on my reflection journal. So I will tell you a little bit of my experience in creating individual and group assignment. I’ve met and thrived along on this journey up until now.

The individual assignment is all about us. We get to write about ourselves and be able to visualize about who we are. For me, it’s easy to write about myself and my family. But I stuck when writing favorite song or favorite food because I don’t like to do in detail. Then in the individual assignment, I also wrote a way to manage our behavior and write the three thing exercise. When making three things, I will do it before I put in the list of three good things I did during that week. Although it easy to be prepared but I still waste my time to finish the individual assignment. Until a few days before the individual assignment submission deadline, I struck to write a letter again. I took a long time to think whether I wanted to write a letter for my mom or for my dad. For me both I really appreciate and are the most important person in my life including my little brother. If possible, I can write the three of them in my letter. But finally, I chose to give my father a letter. This is because I want to show that I want to appreciate the sacrifice of my father against me who is willing to send me back and forth in school when it is raining and hot, he is also a responsible, kind, caring, and attentive person. I love my family, especially my parents and my sister.

For my group assignment, it was so fun. Each group has 3 members - Sarah, Salwa and me. We always talk about having a drink in my room. I feel grateful and happy together with them both because they are both very good, always helping each other and never give up. for me, they both always give me a boost to do something. While making role play, I and Sarah became a helper and helpee and salwa as a person taking a video. Although the script has been made, me and sarah are not very memorable, just understand it and do it spontaneously. we make role play up to 3 times. During the first video, there was a garbage truck rubbing in a hibiscus college area. In fact, there are also sounds of cats on the roof. Despite the various disturbing sounds, I spent two of them very patient. I feel like a group with them both. they are still crying and never complaining during this group assignment.
Now I would like to thank all my friends who are involved directly or indirectly in the classroom for giving me encouragement and support. but also do not forget my friends who are my friends wherever I am. last but not least, thank you Dr. Fatahyah Hj. Yahya for teaching and guidence. I like Dr. Fa because of its maternal nature.

Journey of Life

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone. I'm Nurfarrah 'ain Binti Mohammad Sport, with the matric number 68410. You can call me Farrah or Ain. I'm from Kuching, Sarawak. I want to tell a little about my experience before I go to university. After the STPM decision came out, I found that my STPM decision was not very good. From there I started to feel very worried that my entry rate to the university was quite thin. After several days of STPM decision, I decided to meet with counselors at SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg to ask how to fill the UPU online and at the same time want to know what counseling program I need to take to fill UPU online later. After discussions with counseling teachers at school. I went to Sarawak State Library to fill the UPU online. After a week later, I found my online UPU wrong. Then I try to go to all the university-related seminars. All that I experienced. I fell down from the wood hole before going to the seminar until I was hit by a motorcycle and on my way to the seminar I was overwhelmed by heavy rain. From there I feel very hard and I almost give up. Every time I feel my defeat will remind my parents and my face, in that way I rise again and never give up. I'm very scared if I can not go to university. In many seminars I went there, there was a seminar that had a B40 form from University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) for admission to a university that was unrelated to the online UPU. The B40 form is completed and sent to University Malaysia Sarawak. Every time I go to the program, my dad will always ask my progress as I attend each program. During the online UPU invitation, I feel very sad because I know I can not go to university. Since then, I started calling UPU officials asking what I should do if I was mistaken for the UPU. I'm very confused, I want to go to university because to get my father's wishes for me to go to university. After three days of university entry for the first session, I received a call from UNIMAS office and congratulated me as I was able to connect my studies to UNIMAS. After hearing the good news, I continued to contact my father and told me I had successfully entered the university. I feel very happy because of what my father wants to see me go to university.

UNIMAS intake registeration day picture (04 September 2018)
I saw my parents face very happy and I also saw the sacrifice of my father while preparing my entry into university. Even so she was not ashamed to ask for a little help for me from a grandfather. I feel very sad when I hear my mother tell me back. How much she tried to get some help from an outsider. From there, when I entered every class I determined to study hard. My experience when entering Basic Helping Skills classes during the first week, I feel very nervous and very worried. Like something playing in my mind. I think whether the lecturer is good or fierce, is she a considerate person, is she a person to be approached, whether the friends in the class are friendly or not, are they all clever and are all fluent in English. minutes later before 08:00 am, when stepping into the classroom, my basic assistance skills lecturer came in with a smiling face to us all in the class. The first time I saw lecturer, I found she is a Chinese child who has entered Islam religion. She greets us wit a kindly smile and give us a good impression in our mind. I find she has a motherhood when she looks at her face, the way she speaks and her style. I feel warm with Dr. Fa because of her humor and gentle personalities. Before the lesson start, she will introduce himself, her name Dr. Fatahyah Yahya so can call her Dr. Fa. She also tells her little background. After that, everyone among us who introduced ourselves and expressed their own strength.
After attending the class, I had learned about what is helping, helper, and helpee, the character of the effective helpers. I also had learned various helping technique and skill that are important for each counsellor must have. How to make a role play. I learned how to play the role play and the skills used throughout the role play. I learned many knowledge from basic helping skills class.

second post of basic helping skills

Hi guys, welcome to my second post. In the previous post, I have mentioned my experience of first time attending the Basic Helping Skills class. Now, I’m going to share with you all about my feeling after a few months what I have learned during BHS class. And also my feeling after completing the two assignment (individual assignment and group assignment) that have been given by lecturer.

This is how i felt after i complete my assignment. Full of joy.

After finishing the individual assignment, I find that it helps me to know myself better. Why do I say so? This is because this assignment requires me to write about myself, my family, and the ways of managing my own behavior.  In this part, it enables me aware of the shortcomings or weakness that have existed on my body for a long time. I learned to control my emotion and behavior so that people around me do not get hurt innocently. In everything, I also learned to think twice before going to do something. The most interesting part for me in this assignment is the happiness project about three good things that happened in a day. Through this task, I am able to try to appreciate everything, even though it is a small thing that has happened in daily life. I learned that we should be grateful and thankful for every moment when some good things happen around us.

For group assignment, we have to record a 15 to 20 minutes video about the helping session. From the beginning, I feel very tension and stress with it. We never have the ‘video-making’ experience and our group don’t have the teamwork spirit. The deadline for this assignment is going to due and the time for us to complete it only left one week. The time is too short for us. This makes us getting more stressful. Plus, I have mentioned before that I’m a quiet person and not good in communication. I forced myself to open up my mouth, speak with my broken English, one or two short simple sentences. But still, I’m afraid that I will ruin this group assignment and disappointed my teammate. Fortunately, I have a very good and responsible teammate. I used to call her a ‘top student’. In every assignment, she will ensure her teammate have completed their work. When there is something wrong in the work, she will correct us immediately. Under her supervision and guidance, our assignment successfully completed. Last but not least, I would like to say thank you to her for being a special friend to me. She is very thoughtful and patient person. She always encourages me and persuades me do not easily give up. Must go forward and be brave enough to chase dreams!

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

ENCOURAGE YOURSELF TO BE BETTER

My name is Lenny Len Anak Linggir (66459). You can called me Lenny. In my previous blog, I have shared with  you all about my experience of first time attend the class Basic Helping Skill (BHS). Now, I want to share about my feeling after learn BHS in a few month and after finish the two assignment which is individual and group assignment.

After a few month in Unimas, I learn many thing in my life. Examples we have to independent ourself to manage everything. There, we have face with many assignment. It is very challenge for me because not all of our member can cooperate well to each others. Plus quiz and mid-term and make a revision for final exam also. With a busy life in University, time management is very important for manage everything include study and personal daily routine.

I learn more knoeledges after study BHS. First, I learn how to to be an effective helper. Also, I have learned about Daisy Model , Person-Centered Theraphy(PCT), Cognitive Behaviour Theraphy in BHS. There all is very useful knowledges to be a good counsellor. There is are three important thing in PCT such as empathy, respect clients and show congcruency. Besides, cognitive behaviour theraphy is about many techniques that we can use in a counselling session. With that we can do a good role play in a counselling session.

During individual assignment, I feel better because this assignment is related of myself. In this assignment I has shared my personality and three a good thing in my daily life. During a group assignment, we divided to three people as a group members. We have to do a video about helping skill in 15 until 20 minutes. This was diffuclt because we need to make good video. Thus, due date for this assignment was after holidays break. Our challenged is how can we meet up together for shooting this video and finish the report about it. Conclusion, our great teamwork make we can submit that assignment on time.

That all. Thank you.

Pino's Dream

Hello everyone. My name is Phyladelphia Papino Anak Entinggi, just call me Pino with matrix number 68417. I’m  20  years  old  and I’m  was  born  at  9 October 1998.  I’m form Bintulu, Sarawak. I  was  continue  my  studied  in  programme  of  Counselling  under  Faculty  of  Cognitive  Sciences  and  Human  Development  for 4 years  in University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).  Counselling is my first choice in UPU. I am very grateful that I was elected in the course that I was interested in.  I named this journal as Pino's Dream because I will tell you all why I am interested in being a counselling student.

My interest in counselling began when I joined the counselling activities organized by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Bahagian Bintulu. At that time, I was still studying in Form 6. My mother had invited me to attend the counselling activities to facilitate me to make a choice on the course that I would choose to pursue at the University level. While participating in the activity, we are exposed to various types of counselling such as individual counselling, family counselling, mental health counselling, adolescent counselling and so on by a counsellor who is one of the counsellors in the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Bahagian Bintulu.

At that time, the counsellor recounted his experiences as long as he became a counsellor in charge of adolescent counselling. Various teenage problems he shared like teenagers selling drugs, teenagers stealing, raped teens and so on. I was very interested in adolescent counselling. From that day, I aspire to be a counsellor in handling teenage cases. Why am I interested in handling teenage cases? Because I am aware that teenagers are the backbone of our country. If all the adolescents are drifting away from fun, then they forget that they have a responsibility to the nation. Now, my dream has been reached. I am a trained counsellor in UNIMAS. I hope one day I will serve the youth, the people and the nation. Thank you! Have a nice day, friend!

My First Post for Basic Helping Skills

Hi everyone, welcome to my first post and thanks for spending your time to read my post. First of all, let me briefly introduce myself so that you guys know who I am. My name is Hii Siew Yuen with matrix number 66123. I am a first-year UNIMAS student which taking counselling under the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development. I came from Sarikei, Sarawak. Sarikei is a small town located on the Rajang River, near to the river empties into the South China Sea. It is well-known because of its sweet and juicy pineapple production. Thus, the town is also called as “pineapple town” and the “food basket of Sarawak”.

Once I get knew my UPU result, I am offered with the program counselling in UNIMAS. My heart suddenly sank and felt depressed. Counselling is my 7th choice out of 12. I’m really not interested in counselling courses. I know, be a counsellor must good in communication and capable to deal the problems with the clients. But, I am the kind of person that very quiet and seldom talk with others since I am small. So, I don’t have the confidence that I can be a good counsellor in the future. It is a big challenge for me to make new friends and communicate with others in university life. It is hard for me to adapt myself in a new environment. I worried that I can’t make a new friend and scared to be alone. Thankfully, I had made some new friends. They are very precious to me and very friendly to me.

Friends who always joke around with me and
make my unilife become more meaningful.💗

Now, I would like to share with guys about my experience with the basic helping skills class during the first week. In the beginning, I feel very nervous and worried actually. This is due to I don’t know who is going to teach us and the lecturer is strict or not. But when Dr Fa steps in the tutorial room, she smiles at us. I find that Dr Fa has a deep dimple on her cheeks and a very familiar Chinese’s eyes. She greets us with a kindly smile and gives us a good impression in our mind. I feel warm with Dr fa because of her humorous and gentle personalities. Before the lesson start, she asked us to state what strength do we have own. I asked myself and tried to find out what strength I have. A few minutes pass, I still don’t have the answer. I felt annoyed because I don’t like someone ask me to stand up and answer the question. So, I just simply replied, “I don’t know what my strength is… and I don’t have strength…” Dr Fa continues, “Hii, everyone has their own strength. You just didn’t realize it. Try to think for a moment before you give us an answer.” Then I think and think, I figure that my strength is honesty. I can be a good listener and help others to keep the secret. I felt very pleased and thanks for Dr Fa awakening me so that I can see my strengths.

After attending the class, I had learned about what is helping, helper, helpee, the characteristics of effective helpers and the types of helpers through the first lesson. Besides, I also had learned various helping technique and skills that are important for a counsellor to have. This is because all of those techniques and skills can help a counsellor to deal with client’s issues and help to ensure the counselling session run smoothly. Lastly, I hope I can overcome all the difficulties faced by me and keep going until achieving my goals.

That’s all for me and please look forward to my next post 😬
