CHALLENGE AS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Before incoming to their university consist of students that are excellent in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination however academic achievement at university level not as excellent as like hoped. This may have been caused by learning style that is different between school lifes and also in the university. During at school level, teacher concentrate fully attention to guide students, while in student university level ignored independent and ignored independent and guidance from instructor is limited. some students fish out of water with new study style cause them heave. Many among students that yet to suit with way learn team (team learning) that badly need positive contribution from each member of a group. To succeed in learning in a group, need involvement, of which every member play respective role, mutually help and always share idea and opinion.

In this matter student need a personal resilience spirit that is high (strong will power) to face new challenges.Way learn that a lot require discussion found very little among students. This may be due to lack of read and less making private reference in library.Generally library in the university face customer problem, which students only concentrate time to library when examination period only. Many students that complained that reference material most is in English and this again student should equipping self in command of English. Another matter which occurred is student not like to buy scholarly books to be made a reference, would run copy of photocopy.Should be perhaps planted from early collect academic books and turned into mini library itself.

 Culture learn that healthy, like always makes discussion with lecturer and also classmate, urgent revealed by party concern, especially had to show up from lecturers or academic adviser in the university and also from student affairs. One of the big issue faced new student in the university is socialisation problem between students either current in lecture room or in activity that organised by university authority. This problem arises as family background difference, lifestyle and living standard. For example, student who come from family that is difficult and low living standard especially in the rural often fish out of water because feeling inferior.For student who come from family well off and only child on the other hand, they facing different problems.

They often could not give cooperation with other and more selfish friends especially in group project work.Luxury that they experience cause them insensitive and half-heartedly in facing their education. Until some are brave hire other people completing course work assigned to them.Peer influence that came from different background too , causing behaviour change that is sudden to new students, like influenced with social culture that is free until there is student that facing financial problems and also moral decadence cause their lessons are declining.Here very important student affair case role, of which they can do counselling session either individually or cluster. Students in IPTA really need guidance and counselor must be wise in playing role.
