The first individual assignment requires us to write about ourselves; mainly on our background, family and how we manage our own behavior. We were also required to do a happiness project which consists of three good things exercise, self-reflection on three good things exercise and a letter of gratitude to someone that we feel really grateful to. It was a fun assignment to do because it helps me to explore deeper about myself and to compile it in one assignment. I have never thought of myself from different aspects at once. This assignment helps me to record and write facts about myself which have raised awareness upon myself and that I am unique and complex as a human being. Circumstances and situations played a big role in shaping my life since birth. It was clearer to see how the journey of my life goes on with the people I surround myself with. I was really encouraged and proud of who I am when I had to write about myself. What I like, how my identity is, what I am good at; writing about all these facts have helped me to discover more about myself. I also get to feel more grateful for having a good family and a good education background. The things that I do not know much, I have to gather information and think harder about my past and my daily activities. The individual assignment has helped me to observe and perceive myself as I truly am since I was an infant until today. This assignment is a good tool to learn about oneself and help oneself before helping others. I had to reflect upon my daily activities to figure out what good things that I have done for the whole day. This activity has made me realize that we do good every day but we have never thought about it. Writing a letter of gratitude to a dear friend has also made me realize how important relationships are; especially with good company. I am truly blessed to have dear friends that stay true with me through thick and thin. I am really grateful for each person that I have encountered in my life for they have shaped me to become who I am today. A person’s presence can truly make a big impact on one’s life. I believe that we, as trainee counselors, ought to become the best we can and reach our highest potential to make positive impacts in other people’s lives.
As for the group assignment, we were assigned to random groups with two other members. We have learned to plot a story of how helping process looks like in a story. I was worried because we are not very skilled in making a story plot. We have gotten through it by doing common scenes of helping and being caring as a helper. Not only were we clueless, we also do not have good acting skills. I have learned to become more patient when working with other people because not everyone can meet your expectations. We need to accept them as they are and not focus on their flaws. Instead, as a team, we should build each other up and assign tasks for everyone according to fairness and one’s capacity. Through the making of the video, I could understand better of how the Person-Centered Theory works in a helping process.
