MY FIRST THOUGHT ABOUT BASIC HELPING SKILLS

I still remember my first date attended Basic Helping Skills classed was at 12^th September 2016, which is week two. I did not attended the classed on week one because I had totally loss on searching the class. That’s sound very funny as I am first year student here.

            In the first classed, we had done ice-breaking activity, where all of student need to introduce themselves. We need to tell about our strength and weakness. After that, Dr Fatahyah had explain about our course outline and then about examination and assignment.

            My first thought about this course are it was very difficult for me to score good on this course. Moreover, when Dr Fa said that our final exam will be replaced with individual counselling session. I felt it very complicated because we are first year student. At the same times, our mark will be calculated based on technique and skill that we used during counselling session. Besides that, at that time I thought I cannot do it because I am quite person and maybe I will failed to handle that counselling session.

            But after few times came to this classed, it seem that I started to take it easy. Furthermore, this course had taught me about Person Centered Therapy (CBT), where human must change their thinking and behavior. If we set our mind that it is difficult, then it will be difficult. From now on, I have always think positive. I had become more easily to understand as the lecturer teach us with related the lesson with reality stories. With these explanation, I feel more enjoyable and not bored. Moreover, we had done our group assignment, where we need to make video about helping process between helper and helpee. Absolutely, this assignment can train me to have an experience in helping process. Lastly, I want to highlight that Basic Helping Skills not really difficult as long as we enjoy it. Thank you.
