"KMC 1083"

     

KMC 1083 is the core subject that compulsory to all counseling students. My class for this subject is on Tuesday and start at 9 am to 12 noon. The lecturer that teaching me is Dr Fatahyah bt Yahya also known as Dr Far and she is a Kedahan. She has a very strong aura of a counselor. When she started the lecture, every single word that she said was very meaningful. I noticed that she has her own intonation while deliver her lecture that makes students focus and attracted. I also admire with her English pronunciation. In her lecture, she will teach on how to help people because the skills are very important in order to build an effective helping. Dr Far will explain deeply for every important points including the example of situation, This kind of lecture makes me fun and relax during class. Dr Far also mentioned before that we as a counselor should practice god ethics. For example, we have to listen more and talk less. This is because clients will become more comfortable to share their story. This kind of skill also reveals the professionalism in this carrier. Another one of her massage is we have to practice the concept of 'It is okay if we know, and it is also okay if we don't know'. This is because people will tent to share the problems to those who are seems like don't want to know more.

     This course very important because every people need their basic which is their starter to do somethings. Same goes to a counselor, they need to have basic helping skills before they can help the clients. Counselor also will be confronted with a lot of people with different attitude. If they do not have the basic helping skills, how they gonna handle those people. So, this subject are very helpful in order to do counseling session with clients. 

     In this course, we learnt on how to make clients feel comfortable, how to respond to clients stories, how to react when clients start to cry and also what kind of questions that can or cannot be asked. Talking about the type of question that can be ask is the open question. This is because open questions will help to elaborate and enrich the client's story. The example of open question are "Could you tell me more about that?" or " What else comes to your mind?". In the other hand, counselor supposed to avoid firing questions one after another as they would sound like an interrogation. Counselor also need to avoid from giving the 'two alternatives' in a question and avoid starting the session by asking series f closed question because it might give a wrong idea to client that he/she needs to answer 'yes' or 'no'. Counselor have to choose questions that are helpful and not to use i for the sake of asking. That are a little bit from what i had learned before in this class.

     In the nutshell, KMF 1083 need to be mastered by all counseling student in order to produce a great and accredited counselor. I hope all my classmates will score A for this subject and can apply all the knowledge in future once we become a counselor.
