😀 SECOND POST😀
BASIC HELPING SKILLS
Hello again everyone!!!
On this post I'm going to talk about my experience in basic helping class.
To be honest i really like this basic helping class. From this class i learn a lot of skills like restating, paraphrasing, minimal response, clarifying, checking, reflection, chunking, summarizing and so on. As a counselor to be, these skills are extremely important for me to carry out a counseling session. The usage of this skills are the elements that would help me to understand my clients better and most importantly will help the client to build trust on me as his/her counselor. nobody can ever talk openly about their thoughts and problems if they are not comfortable right? through this subject i came to know that a therapeutic environment is very important aspect as well when it comes to counselling. i totally agree with it because a conducive surrounding is the key point to develop a professional client and therapist relationship. For instance, if i was the client entering a non-therapeutic counselling room with squeaky chair, warm surrounding, broken tables and unpainted ugly wall, i am definitely not going there again. Moreover, i also may not discuss my problems with my counsellor because i do not feel comfortable being in that place. Thus, for me i feel like therapeutic surrounding is like the primary factor when it comes to counselling. Actually to be a counsellor, it is not a easy thing, there are so many consequences need to be faced by every counsellors. There are so many things and aspects a counsellor need to consider before making a move. a counselor just cannot simply say things they want and most importantly they must be super patient to listen to their client's problem.
So, do not ever underestimate a counsellor.
